Brightmere Council is the principal council for the Brightmere local area in Steadfast. It provides local democratic and council services within the functions assigned to Havenstead councils.

Our role

The council is responsible for democratic services and elections and for local functions covering communities and neighbourhoods, Community Connectors, local wellbeing, community safety, libraries, archives, museums and heritage, recreation, volunteering and civil society, local economy support, local information and integration, local place planning, infrastructure requirements, resilience and complaints.

What we do not provide

The council does not automatically exercise the functions that English councils may hold in areas such as Council Tax, statutory social care, NHS services, waste, highways, housing, trading standards, environmental health, immigration, nationality, operational policing or fire and rescue.

Strategic relationships

Brightmere Council is a constituent council of the Steadfast & Hearth Combined Sphere Authority. That relationship does not make the council part of the strategic authority or transfer Brightmere's own democratic and local-service responsibilities to it.
