What scrutiny does

Scrutiny councillors can examine matters within the council's remit, review decisions and performance, consider evidence and make recommendations. Scrutiny is not a second executive: its role is to provide challenge, review and public accountability within the council's constitutional arrangements.

Scrutiny meetings

Where a scrutiny body is meeting, its agenda, reports and later minutes are published through the meetings and decisions service. That record shows the matters considered and the formal outcome of the meeting.

Current work

Work programmes, reviews and recommendations are published when they exist as council records. Until then, this page explains the scrutiny function instead of listing work that has not yet been formally recorded.
