Brightmere Council's archives contain records created or retained through the council's functions and local administration.
Finding a record
Start by telling the council what subject, place, organisation or time period you are researching. The service can then identify whether potentially relevant material is held and whether it is available for public access.
Access restrictions
Not every archive record can be made immediately available. Restrictions can arise from privacy, legal requirements, physical condition or preservation needs. Where access is restricted, the service explains the reason as far as it can.
Using archive material
Researchers should handle or use material in accordance with any conditions set to protect the record and the rights of other people.
Making an archive enquiry
An archive enquiry works best when you provide the names, places, organisations, dates or subject you are researching. Staff can then determine whether relevant material is held and what access arrangements apply.
Archive access and information-rights requests are related but different. A request for current recorded council information may belong in the information-rights service instead of the historical archive service.
